The pundit enjoyed a joke with the Tottenham star after he fired his side to victory over Fulham,

Jamie Carragher couldn’t resist joking with Tottenham star James Maddison last night on Monday Night Football.

The Sky Sports pundit brought up the Liverpool vs Tottenham controversy from last month which ended in a 2-1 victory for Maddison’s side - which is Liverpool’s only defeat of the season so far.

Maddison, 26, is currently on fire for his new club in London as he netted once again under new manager Ange Postecoglou to send his side back to the top of the Premier League table after defeating Fulham.

Their winning run has certainly been impressive, but they were very lucky to beat Liverpool on the day after a Luis Diaz goal was given offside (which it wasn’t) and it led to VAR making an awful decision.

Audio was released and there was even an apology from the PGMOL which then led to calls for a replay, but it seems like a situation in which many are joking about now, including ex-Liverpool defender Carragher.

Carragher asked Maddison in their post-match breakdown: “You’ve got a big game Friday. There’s a long way to go, but you’ve done really well... how do you think you’ll get on in that replay against Liverpool?”

The question left guest Gary O’Neil and host David Jones in stiches, as Maddison laughed away on the screen. He then replied: “I just know by the tone of Carra’s voice that was going to be the question.”

The now-famous game between the two sides had manager Jurgen Klopp originally asking for a replay of the match: “The only outcome should be a replay…probably won’t happen. The argument against that will be if we open that gate everyone will ask for it. I think the situation is unprecedented.”

Carragher also went on to reveal that he believes Maddison has been the most influential player in the league so far, snubbing Mo Salah who has also been in teriffic form at the start of this season.

With 12 goal contributions in 11 games, he’s been in brilliant form and it was also announced yesterday that he had won the PFA Player of the Month for September after strong showings scoring two goals and contributed a brace of assists to help Liverpool win three of their four fixtures in the division during the month.
