Loris Karius breaks silence and discusses his Liverpool future ahead ofJanuary transfer window

Loris Karius has admitted he is keen to leave Liverpool in the January transfer window.

The goalkeeper hasn't played for the Reds since his disastrous performance in the 2018 Champions League final loss to Real Madrid.

Karius now finds himself as fourth choice at Anfield behind Alisson Becker, Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian.

He's spent the past three seasons on loan at Union Berlin and Besiktas, while he was linked with a permanent switch to Basel in the summer that did not materialise.

Karius conceded he's in a tough situation but is keeping himself focused ahead of a potential mid-season move.

Speaking to the Here We Chill programme on Twitch, the 28-year-old said: “Obviously, right now, it's a not-so-easy situation.

“As a goalkeeper, you always want to play and it's a bit of a difficult situation.

“We were going to move in the summer. It didn't happen for some reason, that's football, life goes on.

“I had a shoulder injury for the last six weeks, I'm recovering now and hoping to be back in training next week and just see what is going to happen. You just need to focus, train well and get in the best physical shape, be ready.

“Maybe something happens, if not then be ready for the next transfer window and that's the situation at the moment.”

Where could he move to?

Karius insists he’s open to joining a club that is the right fit for him.

He added: “I'm open. It doesn't have to be the league, it has to be the project, the league where I have to feel I'm really wanted.

“In the summer, I had one or two things I'd have been happy to do it. In football, if not everything comes together then sometimes it doesn't happen. It's not just what you want to do, it's more things.

“I think I'll get opportunities in the January transfer window, that's my aim.

“Of course, I'm happy to be here and help where I can - put good performances in training and push the other guys.

“Football is a team sport and players who don't play, it's important to have a good attitude.”
