The University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University have both ranked in the top five universities in the North West in the latest Times university guide.
The University of Liverpool ranked third, with Liverpool John Moores coming fifth in the The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023.

Edge Hill University and Liverpool Hope University sit just outside the top five, in sixth and seventh respectively.
The definitive guide, released annually, ranks UK universities on factors relating to all aspects of student life, using data from the 2022 National Student Survey on quality of teaching and student satisfaction.
National rankings


In terms of national rankings, John Moores notched a significant improvement, jumping 20 places from 91 to 71. But the University of Liverpool still ranks highest from Merseyside, despite dropping three places to rank 33 nationally.
Topping the ranks for the North West is Lancaster University, which comes in at 12 overall for the UK, down one from 2022.

The University of Liverpool ranks just behind North West leader Lancaster in terms of the graduate prospects catagory. The city’s university has 78.8% of graduates in high-skilled jobs or graduate-level study, compared to Lancaster’s 82.6%.
The Liverpool university was even closer to Lancaster in the completion rate rankings at 92.5%, just 1.6% behind Lancaster.
Liverpool John Moores has an 83.8% completion rate, Edge Hill – 86.7%, and Hope – 82.9%.
The results from the 2022 National Student Survey show Liverpool Hope to have the highest rating for teaching quality in Merseyside, at 78.5%, and ranked second for student experience at 73.4%, just 0.7% behind top-rated John Moores.
