As a direct result of the COVID-19 lockdown last winter, many vulnerable people will not have developed natural immunity to influenza, which experts believe will result in more people catching flu this winter.

You are much more likely to be seriously ill if you catch COVID-19 and flu at the same time, according to NHS England.

Who can have an NHS flu vaccine from a pharmacy?

You can get a free NHS flu vaccine from a pharmacy if:

• you are 50 and over (including if you are 50 by March 31 2022)
• you have certain medical conditions
• you are pregnant
• you are a frontline adult social care worker who cannot get a vaccination from your employer

The pharmacy will tell you how and when you can book your vaccination.

Health and social care workers with vouchers

If you have been given a voucher for the flu vaccine by your employer, you will be able to use this at a pharmacy that offers this service. Check with the pharmacy that they will accept the voucher.

Children under the age of 18

Children under 18 cannot get the flu vaccine at a pharmacy. But they may be able to get it from their GP surgery or school.
