The top four hotels in the ranking were all in London, with the world-famous Ritz topping the list.

How the hotels were ranked

The research, conducted by Happy Beds, analysed a number of factors, including followers, average likes and comments on posts, engagement rate and tags, placing them all into an algorithm to work out which were the most popular hotels on Instagram.

The Shankly Hotel

The Shankly, built in honour of Liverpool FC’s legendary manager Bill Shankly, came out as the most popular hotel in the country outside of London.

It has individually designed rooms and themed party suites for up to 24 people in one room.

With the Bastion restaurant and cocktail bar, as well as the Bill Shankly Museum all on site, it’s no surprise that this iconic hotel is so popular on social media.

With a 1.2% engagement rate and 71 average comments per post on Instagram, it rated the highest for any hotel.

The Ritz, which recently starred in its own behind-the-scenes ITV documentary, came out in first place, above another legendary London hotel, The Savoy.

The top 10 list hotels

Lucy Bolland, Marketing Manager at Happy Beds, said: “We know about the importance of comfort when it comes to sleep, and it’s no secret that some of the finest, most decadent and comfortable hotels in Britain are located in London. However, as a northern company, we’re also pleased the likes of The Shankly are incredibly popular.

“There are so many factors that make a hotel Instagrammable, whether it be the location of a world-class chef’s restaurant such as Raymond Blanc at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons or shrouded in the history of an icon such as Bill Shankly.”

Research and ranking methodology

Happy Beds used Starngage and Phantom Buster social media insight tools to gather information on the social media followings and outputs of the top 40 most followed hotels in the UK.

These were all placed into an algorithm to give them a score out of 100 using number of followers, post tags on Instagram, average likes and comments and engagement rates on posts.
