COVID-19: All six Liverpool regions record rise in infections according to the latest figures

The latest week on week data from the Government show the overall percentage rise for the Liverpool City Region as a whole was 17%.

All six areas of the Liverpool City Region have seen a rise in COVID-19 cases with three recording notable surges, the latest data from the Government shows.

Knowsley, Wirral and St Helen’s have all seen a week on week percentage increase in coronavirus infections above 20%.

According to the figures from Public Health England, Knowsley was the worst hit constituency as COVID-19 cases rose by 29.8% in the seven days leading up to 13 October.

The region had 533 cases in total, 130 more than the previous week.

Wirral’s percentage change week on week rose by 26.5%, with 288 more cases than the previous seven days - 1,375 in total.

St Helens recorded an increase of 21.5%, with 154 more cases - 869 in total.

Infection rates in Halton (16.5%), Liverpool (10.2%) and Sefton (8.5%) also rose during the same period.

Here we take a look at the increase in cases and infection rates over the weekend in each constituency.

Halton

According to the latest figures released on Monday, 18 October, the number of coronavirus cases in Halton increased by 311 over the weekend.

A total of 20,725 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19.

The rate of infection in Halton now stands at 15,972 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the England average of 12,779.

Knowsley

Coronavirus cases in Knowsley increased by 259 over the weekend with two more deaths recorded.

A total of 28,332 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19.

The rate of infection in Knowsley now stands at 18,584 cases per 100,000 people, which is also higher than the England average.

The two further deaths recorded over the weekend takes the region’s overall tally to 457 people.

Liverpool

The number of cases in Liverpool increased by 582 over the weekend.

A total of 82,063 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19 in the area.

The rate of infection in Liverpool now stands at 16,397 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the national average.

Sefton

The number of cases in Sefton increased by 441 over the weekend with two more deaths recorded.

A total of 42,721 people had been confirmed as testing positive.

The rate of infection in Liverpool now stands at 15,484 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the England average.

The two further deaths recorded over the weekend takes the area’s overall tally to 866 people.

St Helens

The number of coronavirus cases in St Helens increased by 399 over the weekend.

A total of 29,765 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19 in the area.

The rate of infection in St Helens now stands at 16,436 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the national average.

Wirral

The number of coronavirus cases in Wirral increased by 574 over the weekend.

A total of 44,380 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19.

The rate of infection in Wirral now stands at 13,683 cases per 100,000 people, higher than the England average of 12,322.
