COVID-19: All six regions of Liverpool record rise in infections - seven more deaths over the weekend

All six boroughs of the Liverpool City Region have seen a week on week rise in COVID-19 cases, the latest data from the Government shows.

All the regions also have an infection rate higher - far higher in some instances - than the England average of 14,828 per 100,000 people.

Liverpool and St Helen’s have seen the highest week on week percentage increase in coronavirus infections at nearly 10%

According to the figures from Public Health England, St Helens was the worst hit borough as COVID-19 cases rose by 9.6% in the seven days leading up to 17 November.

The region had 777 cases in total, 68 more than the previous week.

The percentage change week on week in Liverpool rose by 9.5%, with 132 extra cases than the previous seven days - 1,510 in total.

Halton recorded an increase of 7.5%, with 560 cases in total, 39 more than the previous week.

Knowsley had an infection rate of 6.9%, with 570 cases, 37 more than the previous seven days.

Infection rates in Wirral (5.9%) and Sefton (3.7%) also rose during the same period.

Halton

According to the latest figures released on Monday, 22 November, the number of coronavirus cases in Halton increased by 215 over the weekend, with one more death recorded.

A total of 23,934 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19.

The rate of infection in Halton now stands at 18,445 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the England average of 14,828.

The further death recorded over the weekend takes the area’s overall tally of COVID-19 deaths during the pandemic to 303 people.

Knowsley

Coronavirus cases in Knowsley increased by 195 over the weekend with one more death recorded.

A total of 31,256 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19.

The rate of infection in Knowsley now stands at 20,502 cases per 100,000 people, which is also higher than the England average.

The one further death recorded over the weekend takes the region’s overall death tally to 472 people.

Liverpool

The number of cases in Liverpool increased by 584 over the weekend with two more deaths recorded.

A total of 89,098 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19 in the area.

The rate of infection in Liverpool now stands at 17,803 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the national average.

The two further deaths recorded over the weekend takes the region’s overall death tally to 1,354 people.

Sefton

The number of cases in Sefton increased by 465 over the weekend.

A total of 48,366 people had been confirmed as testing positive.

The rate of infection in Liverpool now stands at 17,530 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the England average.

There were no further deaths recorded over the weekend. The area’s overall death tally stands at 892 people.

St Helens

The number of coronavirus cases in St Helens increased by 321 over the weekend, with three more deaths recorded.

A total of 33,951 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19 in the area.

The rate of infection in St Helens now stands at 18,748 cases per 100,000 people, far higher than the national average.

The further three deaths recorded over the weekend takes the area’s overall death tally to 531 people.

Wirral

The number of coronavirus cases in Wirral increased by 514 over the weekend.

A total of 50,277 people had been confirmed as testing positive for COVID-19.

The rate of infection in Wirral now stands at 15,502 cases per 100,000 people, higher than the England average of 14,828.

There were no further deaths in Wirral over the weekend. The number of deaths in the borough remains at 900.
