The 97th victim of the Hillsborough disaster is to have his name added to a memorial at Anfield on Friday.

Andrew Devine passed away in July 2021 at the age of 55 due to the life-changing injuries he sustained at Hillsborough.

The club's playing shirts will be updated for the 2022-23 season, with the 97 emblem on the neck's nape.

The engraving of the memorial will take place on Friday, January 28, and a temporary hoarding will be erected between 08:00 and 15:00 to complete this work safely.

Retired police officer stabbed to death in Wirral

A murder investigation is underway following the death of a man in Wirral. Officers were called to a property on Oldfield Way in Heswall at around 20:45 on Monday night.

The man has been formally identified as 64-year old retired detective inspector Andrew McDiarmid.

A 21 year-old man arrested at the scene has been detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment.

A 54-year-old woman has been released on bail as enquiries continue. Mr McDiarmid was a former Merseyside Police officer who retired in 2008 after 30 years' service.

Martin Freeman praised for his accent in new BBC drama

Martin Freeman has been praised for his Scouse accent on social media by viewers of new police drama The Responder.

The series is based on a script from first-time writer and former Merseyside police officer Tony Schumacher.
