📰 The Mayor of Liverpool has responded to the news that Russian military forces have invaded Ukraine.

Mayor Joanne Anderson has said the west must now strain every sinew to convince President Putin that "there are no winners in war" and vowed "to do all that we can to support" Ukrainians who have made Liverpool their home.

"This is a very dark day which could easily become a defining one of the 21st century,” she added.

📰 Retaining police officer and staff numbers while seeking to find almost £14m in savings will be "increasingly difficult", according to Merseyside Police's chief constable.

Serena Kennedy said that the savings needed to be found by the force in the years up to 2027 will place additional pressure on officer numbers moving forward.

📰 Police are looking for witnesses after a man in his 80s was assaulted at the Ainsdale nature reserve near Pinfold Lane.

The man was attacked on Tuesday morning at around 9.45 am by an unknown man, believed to be in his 20s.

It was reported that the suspect pushed the man and stood on his left arm. The suspect then made off on foot in the direction of Dobson’s Ride.
