Daily news bulletin: New ‘Grab-a-Jab’ vaccine clinic opens at Matalan

The local NHS and Liverpool City Council are teaming up with Matalan to offer people the chance to ‘Grab-a-Jab’ whilst they shop.

The Matalan store on Wavertree Road will be hosting an NHS-staffed vaccination clinic in store on 29 and 30 January and the 2 and 5 February.

First, second, and booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be available at the site for anyone aged 16 or over, as well as first and second doses for 12 to15s too.

The vaccination clinic will be located to the rear of the store, and anyone from the local community is welcome to walk in and use it. No appointment is necessary- just turn up.

Retired police officer stabbed to death in Heswall home

A man stabbed to death at his home in Heswall has been named retired detective inspector Andrew McDiarmid.

The 64-year-old was discovered when officers were called to a property on Oldfield Way at around 20:45 on Monday night.

A 21-year-old man arrested at the scene has been detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment.

A 54-year-old woman has been released on bail as enquiries continue.

A post mortem has been carried out, and the cause of death has been confirmed as stab wounds.

An investigation remains ongoing, and officers remain on Oldfield Way while extensive CCTV, house-to-house and forensic enquiries are being carried out.

Chinese New Year in Liverpool

Liverpool's Chinese New Year celebrations are back with a 'roar' as the city marks the Year of the Tiger.

The celebrations bring together traditional celebrations such as the dragon parade and combines them with fire performances, new artwork, dance and live music.

Culture Liverpool has commissioned all of the new pieces of work to complement the free traditional Chinese New Year celebrations, including dragon, unicorn and Lucky Man parades, firecracker displays, family workshops, Tai Chi demonstrations, a small fairground and food stalls.

Activity will take place from 11:00 to 17:30 on Sunday, 6 February.
