📰 The date for an election to replace a Liverpool MP as a member of the city council has been confirmed.

Candidates to fill the vacancy left by Ian Byrne standing down as ward member for Everton, will contest the poll on Thursday April 7.

Mr Byrne stood down from his seat earlier this year after an almost four year stint at Town Hall.

He will continue as the MP for Liverpool West Derby having been elected in December 2019, replacing Stephen Twigg who stood down after nine years in the constituency.

📰 Merseyside dock workers have refused to unload Russian oil bound for the Stanlow refinery at Ellesmere Port as the war with Ukraine intensifies.

The UK Government has banned all ships that are Russian owned, operated, controlled, registered or flagged from entering British ports, but the restriction does not cover the origin of cargo.

📰 Police have charged an 18-year-old man following the shooting of a 15-year-old girl in Upper Warwick Street in Toxteth last Tuesday.

Rio Jones, of Jermyn Street, Toxteth, has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of a controlled drug.
