The statue was designed by Tommy Steele, in honour of the Beatles and their famous track, Eleanor Rigby. It was unveiled in 1982 and has sadly been subject to damage or theft three times now.

A local resident shared an image of the damage on social media, tagging Liverpool City Council.

Originally thought to be an act of vandalism, a spokesperson for Liverpool City Council said: “Following a review of CCTV footage we can see that the damage over the weekend to the Eleanor Rigby statute was an unfortunate accident.

“An assessment of the statue and the repairs needed is now being undertaken.”
