The 29-year-old Euro 2022 winning Lioness said she was honoured to have an image commemorating her sporting successes painted onto the front of 320 Stanley Road.

Alex said: “My mum sends me about 20 pictures a day because she works just up the road. I’ve got family who walk up and down here to work every day. But, to see it in person, it’s pretty unique. It’s really special.

“I think if I can inspire just one girl from Bootle to play football, then I feel like I’ve done my job.”

The artwork was jointly funded by Sefton Council and REPT Sports. Renowned Liverpool artist John Culshaw was tasked with creating the 22ft mural.

Trish Hardy from Sefton Council said: “Alex is an absolute legend in Bootle. We’ve already seen schoolgirls pass and be absolutely inspired and randomly launch into football songs, because that is how important she is to this community.”
