You could become the new owner of a £305,000 Mersyside pub for just £100 in a special one-off raffle.

The Park View pub in Birkenhead has been run by husband and wife team Paul and Linda McNamara for two decades but the couple are looking to step away from the industry.

And they are doing it in unique style as the first owners in England to raffle off a free house.

Paul said: "I was bored thinking about what to do next. I just came up with the idea to raffle the pub so we could take a new direction in our lives.

“Don't get me wrong when we do leave here this year, I'll be crying going out the door. The customers for the past 20 years have been amazing they are like our family, we've done everything for them and they've done everything for us."

Linda said: "I do get upset thinking about it because it has been our lives and they (the customers) are lovely people. That doesn't mean to say we're not going to come back here, we live local ourselves so we're always going to be part of this community."

Raffle tickets can be purchased online at ownapub.com for £100 each, and the winner will receive the building and associated freehold plus all the fixtures and fittings along with £20,000 in cash.

There will be 8,000 raffle tickets issued in total, and the draw closes in September this year.

Charity donation

The McNamaras have also pledged to support The Oliver King foundation with a £40,000 donation from the raffle to support the charity in their work to improve defibrillator accessibility across the UK and campaign in securing government legislation to make defibrillators mandatory in all schools.
