The Christmas bauble iron men heads made by Paul Fay, a sculptor who lives in Runcorn, were originally sculpted with clay which was used to make a mould.

He used resin, paint and the barnacles were added using glue and sand. The unique decorations are on sale in Florence and Fox, an independent gift shop and gallery based on St Johns Road, Waterloo.

The original life-size iron men statues by Antony Gormley, which each stand at over 6ft, can be found on Crosby beach.

Paul told LiverpoolWorld: “I decided to make iron man Christmas decorations to compliment the iron man busts that I have been making for Florence and Fox for a while now.

“Liverpool as a city has such a strong sense of identity so it makes perfect sense to reflect that in Christmas decorations.

“The shop is not far from Crosby beach so the iron men were an obvious choice, which no-one else has done.

“Replicating and adding Christmas hats and beards to some of them was a challenge as they are all painted individually so each one is a work of art in its own right.”

Peter Bennett, who owns the Childwall Emporium, on Queens Drive, Wavertree, has made laser cut wooden decorations of Liverpool landmarks including the Palm House, St George’s Hall and the cathedrals.
