Sam Lomax, of Camp Road, Woolton, has now been charged with a Section 5A public order offence following what Merseyside Police said was a ‘hate crime’.

He will appear in court on Tuesday, 1 March.

Last month, a 54-year old Liverpool fan was issued with a three year Football Banning Order for making racist comments during the same game.

Robert Owen, of Fernbank Drive, Netherton, was handed the ban after it was reported that he directed a racist slur towards an Everton player during the game.
