The statue was designed by Tommy Steele, in honour of the Beatles and their famous track, Eleanor Rigby. It was unveiled in 1982 and has sadly been subject to damage or theft three times now.
A local resident shared an image of the damage on social media, tagging Liverpool City Council.
Mayor Anderson, said: “The mindless damage over the weekend to the Eleanor Rigby statue saddens me deeply. When you think about what this beautiful work of art represents, culturally and socially, it was a real blow to see how it’s been treated.

This is money the council can ill afford to spend and means it will be diverted from another programme, so this vandalism hurts us all twice over.”
