Detectives have charged a man with the murder of “loving father” Paul Stenson in West Derby this month.
Officers were contacted at just after 06:30 on Sunday, 19 December, following reports that the 30-year-old had received a stab wound to his chest.
Adam Fletcher, aged 28 of Palace Road, Liverpool, was charged on Christmas Eve and was remanded in custody this morning to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Monday, 31 January, 2022.
Mr Stenson, a tree surgeon - also known as Paul ‘Mac’ - was stabbed in the chest in the street on Sunday morning.
North West Ambulance Service were called to the scene at Princess Drive and the man was taken to hospital where he later died.
Princess Drive and Aspes Road in West Derby were closed as crime scene investigators carried out examinations and made house-to-house inquiries.
Extensive forensic and witness enquiries into the incident remain ongoing as detectives continue their investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Lee Wilkinson said: “This was a callous, targeted attack that has left Paul’s family with a devastating loss just before Christmas.”
In a statement, Mr Stenson’s family said: “Paul was a hard-working and loving father. He leaves behind his son, daughter, mother and wife who he has been with for more than 15 years, they had been together since school and practically inseparable.
“As a tree surgeon our Paul loved the outdoors and was well known in the community. Wherever he went someone would recognise and chat with Paul.
“His loss will leave our family devastated this Christmas and in the years to come.”
