Old Swan murder investigation: Pensioner found dead in house named, suspect arrested

The 79-year-old man discovered by a police patrol after receiving reports of a domestic incident has been formally identified.

A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering pensioner Anthony Lavender, who was found dead at a house in Old Swan, Liverpool.

Mr Lavender, 79, was discovered by police after receiving reports of a domestic incident at a house on Woodhall Road around 23:50 on Wednesday night.

Officers found Mr Lavender collapsed with a head injury. North West Ambulance Service attended but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

What’s been said

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Wilkinson said: “The investigation is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has happened.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Woodhall Road late last evening who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact to us as they may have information which is vital to our investigation.”

Ongoing Investigation

The 37 year-old suspected was arrested on Thursday and is currently detained.

Mr Lavender’s next of kin have been informed.

A post mortem has taken place and further enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of death.
