Police horses pictured at landmarks across city to raise money for charity
Merseyside Mounted Police Section has released a calendar with police horses in front of iconic landmarks across the city of Liverpool.
Funds raised from the 2022 calendar are to go towards the welfare of the horses in the unit.

Hide AdEach member of the Merseyside Police Mounted Section is a qualified animal welfare professional.
Mounted police officers are trained qualified riders who undergo weekly training and annual requalification.
Merseyside Poilce has said the presence of a horse can have the same impact as 12 officers on foot.
The mounted police officers main duties include policing large scale events within Merseyside, such as football matches at Liverpool, Everton and Tranmere FC, rugby matches at St Helens; organised marches throughout the force area; spontaneous or planned protests and civil disorders.

Hide AdIn the past the horses have been seen at Royal visits, World Cup matches in 1966 and a civic reception for The Beatles.
They also patrol the city centre on a Friday and Saturday night to keep the public safe.
The Mounted Police Section has also previously accepted visitors by appointment only to its stables and go to community events and schools to meet the public.
The section was formed in 1886 and is part of the operational support unit based at Greenhill Road, Allerton.
Stand Tall campaign

Hide AdIn 2018, the Merseyside Mounted Police Section launched a campaign to generate more support and funding.
The money raised was due to go back into vet fees, feed, saddlery farrier and vehicles.
Funds raised from the 2022 calendar will go to the Stand Tall Foundation.
