Road closures for Sunday’s BTR Liverpool Santa Dash confirmed

The annual Santa Dash returns to the city on Sunday, 5 December - this is where road closures will be on the day of the race.

Between 6,000 and 8,000 runners will take part in the Santa Dash through the streets of Liverpool on Sunday morning as they take in some of the city’s famous sites.

Starting at 09.30 on Canada Boulevard the five kilometre fun run will take in the famous Liver Building, Albert Dock and The Strand before heading into town.

The race will finish at Liverpool Town Hall, after heading past Moorefields and Dale Street, where the runners will be greeted with giant Christmas characters and a flurry of snow right on the finish line.

There will be a traffic management plan in force which will involve road closures and lane restrictions on the morning of the event from approximately 06:00.

Traffic restrictions have been kept to a minimum, the roads affected will be reopened as quickly as possible when the runners pass through and it is safe to do so.

Sunday’s closures in detail and residents access

RESIDENTS ACCESS - Heading for Mann Island

George’s Dockway will be used as the access and exit route and will be managed by the event traffic management team. This will be in operation from 06.00 when Canada Boulevard will be closed for setting up the event, until Canada Boulevard is reopened. There will be a full closure of George’s Dockway at 08.55 for about 20 minutes when no traffic movement is allowed as runners exit Canada Boulevard via Brunswick street onto The Strand.

RESIDENTS ACCESS - Westmorland Drive, Cockspur Street, Princes Gardens, Prussia Street, Highfield Street and Pall Mall.

It should be possible to exit these locations until 09.00 when a safety review of the course will take place prior to the scheduled 09.30 start. After 09.00 it will be difficult to exit these locations until approximately 10.30 when the fun run will have passed Hatton Garden. Once runners have passed this point it will be possible for residents at these locations to exit via Cheapside and Sir Thomas Street. It is expected that runners will have cleared Vauxhall Road and Leeds Street by 011.00 after which time the roads will be opened and normal vehicle access reinstated.

RESIDENTS ACCESS - Old Leeds Street, East Street, Bixteth Street, Rigby Street, Virginia Street, Prussia Street, Edmund Street, Ormond Street, George Street, Union Street, Rumford Place, Old Hall Street.

As Old Hall Street forms part of the course there will be restricted traffic movement to and from the locations listed. It will be possible to exit the immediate area via Bixteth Street / Tithebarn Street. Care should be taken while driving along Tithebarn Street as there will be runners on the road approaching Moorfields. Controlled access across the runners at the junction of Tithebarn Street and Vauxhall Road will be managed throught the event, although when there is a mass of runners all traffic will be held. Traffic movement will be restricted until approximately 11.00 and when runners will have passed through these locations and the roads re-opened for normal traffic movement.
