But the summery weather isn’t expected to last too long amid warnings of torrential rain and heavy winds over the weekend.

What has the Met Office said?

Aidan McGivern, Met Office forecaster, has said the UK has been “much warmer than average for the first half of September” and this will continue ahead of the weekend.

He said: “There will be fog patches first thing and poor visibility on the roads, but once the fog clears, most places will have a fine day, with warm sunny spells.

“It will be 23 or 24C in the south and in the high teens for the north.”

Thursday is bright and sunny and that weather is expected to carry on into Friday when we could hit highs of 21C at around 14.00 to 18.00 before it clouds over in the late afternoon.

Going into the weekend, it will be much the same on Saturday as the city enjoys sunny intervals and a gentle breeze as temperatures top out at 21C between 14.00 and 17.00.

Light rain showers arrive late on Sunday afternoon but Liverpool looks set to avoid the torrential downpours expected to hit other parts of the country. It should still reach about 19C.

Monday will be partly cloudy, changing to sunny intervals by late morning. Temperatures will be similar to Sunday.

So, not reaching the 22C plus in Faro, but a very pleasant few days to look forward to.
