You don’t have to go far to get away from it all this spring with our pick of campsites – all less than 35 miles from home!

After a particularly long winter, we’re all in need of a break. But don’t let the thought of a long journey put you off… these gems are right on our doorstep, from coastal retreats to forest adventures.

So it’s time to get some fresh air and make some memories without breaking the bank at these gorgeous camping spots.

Delamere Forest Camping and Caravanning Club Site

If you don’t already know Cheshire's largest woodland, this peaceful leafy campsite offers the perfect opportunity to get back to nature and explore straight from your tent. Pitches come in a range of sizes and there are lots of great details, including a parent and child shower room and a shop packed with everything you’ll need. Stretch your legs and enjoy a spot of wildlife-spotting in the forest’s 950 hectares or hit the treetops on the nearby Go Ape adventure course.

Wirral Country Park Club Campsite

If you’ve got a caravan or campervan then you’re in for a treat at this site in the midst of a country park spanning 2,000 acres of unspoilt nature. A number of pitches boast stunning views over the Dee Estuary, and it's an ideal spot for birdwatching or coastal walks along the Wirral Way. The well-maintained site includes a kids’ play area and it’s often praised for its friendly staff; make sure you check when the fish and chip van will be visiting to save on cooking.

Kings Acre Glamping

The glamping trend is going from strength to strength and this lovely spot makes it clear why; set on a peaceful family-run smallholding, Kings Acre Glamping provides a serene environment for campers just four miles from Chester. Whether you pitch your own tent or check in to one of the cosy furnished bell tents, you can make the most of the stunning surroundings. The 20 acres surrounding the campsite were historically part of the King’s Forest so there are loads of footpaths to check out and even a small lake with its very own bar (make sure you check whether it'll be open during your stay). Families can enjoy the communal firepit area, and there's a professional pizza oven available for hire too.

Jacksmere Camping

Nestled in a quiet corner of Merseyside, Jacksmere Camping in Scarisbrook is a peaceful no-frills farm site with 25 tent pitches. The kids will have a ball: there’s a straw-bale play area, a small pool in the summertime and even a bouncy castle where they can play for an hour in the morning and evening. Plus, an organic farm shop and two restaurants are within walking distance… what more could you want?

Thurstaston Field

Want to stay five minutes from the beach? This fab back-to-basics pop-up campsite is just a stone’s throw from Thurstaston Beach, and next door to Wirral Country Park with plenty of scenic coastal walks and cycling routes to choose from. There are a couple of cafés super-close (one of which also opens in the evening) or a traditional pub serving food within a 15-minute walk. Just bear in mind that there are no showers on the site, though the incredible location makes up for it.
