Now it's being widely reported that Mykolenko's move to Goodison Park is a done deal. A fee of around £18 million has been agreed, his medical complete and his wages finalised.

In truth, it seems a matter of when and not if Mykolenko will arrive.

The window opens in just a day's time and it's set to be an intriguing month ahead on the blue half of Merseyside.

Will Mykolenko play against Brighton?

So let's say that Everton decide to give supporters a New Years' Day treat after the past three games were postponed.

The Toffees opt to announce Mykolenko. Teaser video followed by a photo with a scarf above the head and all that. That'd bring a bit of cheer.

But would Mykolenko be able to play against Brighton and Hove Albion the following day?

Unfortunately not. Rules state that no new players registered between 1-3 January are eligible to play in the Premier League during matchweek 21.

That means that Mykolenko would have to watch from the stands if he was officially an Everton player and in the country.

When could Mykolenko make his Everton debut?

The 22-year-old could instead make his debut on Saturday 8 January when Benitez's side travel to Hull City in the FA Cup third round (17.30 kick-off).

Mykolenko’s Premier League bow might be the trip to Norwich on 15 January.
