Everton next manager: new frontrunner emerges after previous favourite drops out the picture

Everton have yet to appoint their next manager with a host of names including Derby’s Wayne Rooney and former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard linked so far.

Everton’s search for their next permanent manager continues.

The Toffees are looking for their sixth boss in as many years after sacking Rafa Benitez on Sunday.

The Goodison Park hierarchy relieved the Spaniard of his duties amid fan backlash after a 2-1 loss at Norwich City the previous day.

Benitez has overseen a wretched run of form, with Everton winning just one Premier League game in 13 matches and have dropped to 15th in the table.

Duncan Ferguson is holding the reins in the meantime and will be in the dugout for the visit of Aston Villa on Saturday.

But who might land the job permanently is still very much unclear.

There have been a host of names linked with the role - including Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Roberto Martinez.
