Frank Lampard has told fans he's ready for the fight to ensure Everton remain in the Premier League.

The Toffees are very much in the mire heading into their final 13 matches of the season.

Everton suffered a chastening 5-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this week, with fears of the drop intensifying among supporters.

Lampard's managed only one league win since succeeding Rafa Benitez as boss. As a result, the Blues languish one point and one place above the drop zone.

But Everton return to home comforts on Sunday when they welcome Wolves to Goodison Park before Newcastle United visit next Thursday.

Lampard has insisted that he and his troops must show the character to pull the Toffees to safety.

Asked what his message to the fans who fear relegation is, Lampard replied: “The message to the fans, from my point of view - and I think I keep saying this in my answers - is I'm very much ready for the fight and the challenge.

“Nothing has surprised me since coming in. You want positive results every week but the reality is that it wasn't always going to be that way.

“The fans will see that on Sunday in how we approach the game and perform, I hope.

“The message for them has to be we appreciate their support. We, and I, remain very optimistic about the team because I have belief in the team but the reality is we need results.

“I'm not going to sit here and kid the fans. The position is what it is but we have to show the fight and character to stay in the league as a base and perform at a level that wins us games.”
