Thelwell joins the Toffees from New York Red Bulls, having worked as the MLS side’s head of sport for the past two years.

He was previously sporting director of Wolves between 2016-2020 after being promoted from head of football development and recruitment.

At Molineux, Thelwell oversaw the midlands side’s journey from League One back to the Premier League.

The likes of Diogo Jota, Ruben Neves and Connor Coady were recruited during his tenure.

Thewell revealed that Everton majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri made a ‘compelling’ reason for him to move to Goodison - and he’s relishing helping the club achieve their ambitions.

Thelwell told the club’s website: “I’m so pleased to be joining Everton and to have the opportunity to play a part in the club’s ambitious journey.

“I’m greatly looking forward to working with Frank and the players and to helping the owner and board achieve their long-term footballing objectives.

“The owner, the chairman and the CEO all presented compelling reasons for me to join this great club and I am really excited to have the opportunity to work with them all and to move Everton forward. I can’t get wait to get started.”

Thelwell will spearhead the strategic lead for recruitment and all Everton’s football departments.
