The Football Manager 2022 beta edition was released by developers Sports Interactive on Thursday evening, and with both Merseyside clubs enjoying positive starts to the season, the simulation game will give fans the opportunity to step into the dugout at Anfield or Goodison Park once again.

Neither Liverpool or Everton were particularly busy in this summer’s transfer market, but given the chance, how much will gaming enthusiasts be handed to spend in their own managerial fantasies?

Unsurprisingly, the Reds have quite a bit more leeway when it comes to their spending power.

From the first day in the job, managers are handed £20 million to play with, and are told they will have a minimum guaranteed transfer budget of £85 million going into the 2022-23 season. This can be increased depending on competition success and prize money in addition to transfers throughout the first season of a player’s save.

In the case of their local rivals, gamers taking charge of Everton will have just £2 million to work with initially, with a further £26 million allocated for next season.

In addition to the transfer budget, players also have to consider the cost of salaries. Liverpool’s weekly wage budget comes in at around £100,000, with £3.9 million per week already accounted for. At Goodison Park, the spare wage capacity is also £100,000, with £2 million already accounted for weekly.

With regards to each club’s most valuable assets, Liverpool most expensive player is Virgil van Dijk, with a valuation of £105-119 million, while Everton’s prized jewel is Richarlison, valued between £78-107 million.

The football management simulation game has been wildly popular since it’s initial release in 1992 and is now played by football fans and professional players alike. ‘FM’ is also used as a player database by football clubs due to their worldwide scouting network of around 1,300 scouts which developers use to ensure full accuracy across the game.

The ‘beta’ version of the game was released on Friday night, giving players a chance to play an early access period while the final aspects of the game are being finalised. The full version of Football Manager is released on 9 November.
