Elliott damaged his ankle and was forced to go to hospital, with Struijk issued a red card for the challenge.

Here is what Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Reds defender Virgil van Dijk, Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani and pundits said to Sky Sports on the incident.

Jurgen Klopp

It is a bad injury, ankle. I heard it was dislocated, we could put it back and he’s now in hospital.

He played an incredible game, he’s an incredible player, now he’s out.

Do I want such a young boy having this so early in his career? No. But now it’s the case and we have to be there and will be there.

We will play football without him but will play with him as well because he’s a top player.

I saw the situation. I could see his foot not in the right place and that’s why we were all shocked.

I’m not sure it’s the right moment to speak about these sorts of things.

First and foremost, all our thoughts and prayers are going to Harvey and he really recovers quickly.

We have no idea what the diagnosis is at the moment but it looked bad. Apart from that, it was a fantastic win.

From the moment it happened, you saw Mo (Salah) shouting it was really serious. You look at the reaction from Harvey and you know it’s really serious.

The good thing is I’ve experienced the players, staff, fans around Liverpool. They had my back around difficult times and I’m 100 per cent we will be there for him.

It was hard for him and I wish the boy a full recovery but this is part of football.

If you watch the replay, Struijk lies with his left foot on him and it’s accidental.

The decision was wrong from the referee It was difficult to take a red card like that and personally I think could have been yellow, but I feel sorry for the boy and the injury could be difficult for him.

Of course, we feel sorry for Harvey Elliott.

Sometimes, accidents happen. It is a contact sport.

I think he has made an honest attempt to get the ball. I don’t think he means to hurt or endanger him

He’s rushing back to help his team and it’s one of those horrible moments that happen every now and again.

We don’t want to see people being hurt, we don’t want to see people suffering bad injuries.

But we want to see tackles and fair tackles. Initially, it was a fair tackle.

I thought it was innocent until he’d broken his leg or ankle. It’s tough to take and I hope he comes back quickly and stronger because he’s such a great player.
