Jurgen Klopp has strengthened his squad with just one fresh face in the window.

Ibrahima Konate was purchased for £36 million from RB Leipzig in June.

And although some Kopites would have liked more players to have been recruited after Liverpool finished 17 points behind Manchester City in the Premier League last season, Carragher believes they’ll have to wait 12 months.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the Anfield legend said: “I know there is a frustration among supporters that Liverpool are not getting involved in the transfer market when you look at what Chelsea and Manchester United have done.

“A lot of the money Liverpool were going to spend has been spent on wages and people can’t get their ahead around that.

“But wages in this day and age are almost like transfer fees when you spread it across a four and five-year deal.

“I think Liverpool will be looking to attack the market more next summer. This summer was about renewing contracts but that does cost money.

“Liverpool’s owners don’t have the revenue of Manchester City, Roman Abramovich [Chelsea’s owner], nor do they bring in as much money as Manchester United do.

“So, Liverpool have had a model since FSG have come in and it’s worked spectacularly. They’re seen as one of the best operators in the transfer market and how they go about their business.”

Background

Klopp has remained relaxed about Liverpool’s lack of recruitment over the summer.

Even after losing Gini Wijnaldum, who made 51 appearances last season - the joint-most along with Mo Salah - the Liverpool boss has been happy with his squad.

Instead, the Reds have been tying down their prized assets to long-term contracts.

Jordan Henderson became the latest player to commit his future earlier today, following the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
