Liverpool FC transfers: Could Luis Diaz be the man to get the Reds on the front foot in the title race?

The Colombian would make a fine addition to Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options for the second half of the campaign.

The rumours of Porto attacker Luis Diaz moving to Anfield would have come as a surprise to many Reds fans.

The Colombian looked all set for a move to Tottenham, but a late effort to bring him to Merseyside may yet turn his head.

This will be fantastic news for Liverpool, as his signing could be key to their efforts in hunting down Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

A title winner with Porto in the 2019-20 campaign, Diaz turned plenty of heads with his performances at the 2021 Copa America.

The winger was the joint winner of the golden boot at the tournament, finishing on four goals alongside Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Columbia finished third in the tournament, losing out to eventual winners Argentina in the semi final, and Diaz shone for his country as he was named in the team of the tournament.

With the signing of Diaz, Liverpool would have a player who can make goals as well as score them; something which will no doubt please Salah and co.

Liverpool have managed to keep in touch with Manchester City and, despite some relentless displays from Pep Guardiola’s side, are nine points behind with a match in hand.

With a trip to the Etihad Stadium still to come this season, the title race is far from over.

The potential signing of Diaz, combined with the return of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane from the African Cup of Nations and a renewed confidence in the squad, could set up Liverpool a real title tilt.

An attacking pool of Salah, Mane, Firmino, Jota and Diaz would give Jurgen Klopp an almighty selection headache, although it is one which undoubtedly almost every opposing manager in the league would be envious of.

Manchester City has shown that it is depth as well as quality that’s needed in the Premier League.

Having a talent such as Diaz to join up with Liverpool’s other big hitters would be a huge boost for Liverpool; Reds fans everywhere will be hoping the deal can be settled ready for the return of Premier League action next month.
