Liverpool are hoping to beat Barcelona to Catalan-raised midfielder Dani Olmo.

The RB Leipzig midfielder is reportedly on the Reds' radar - but would come at a substantial price.

Who is Dani Onlo?

Olmo came through the ranks at Barca's famed La Masia academy.

However, to fast-track his way to first-team football, he left the Nou Camp in 2014 aged 16 and moved Dinamo Zagreb.

Olmo scored 34 goals in 124 games for the Croatian outfit and won five league titles before he was snapped up by Leipzig in January 2020.

At the Bundesliga club, the 23-year-old has made 67 appearances, netting 12 times. He played against Liverpool in both legs of Leipzig’s 4-0 Champions League last-16 loss last season.

Olmo is also a regular for Spain and helped them reach the semi-finals of Euro 2020 in the summer.

Why do Liverpool want him?

According to Catalan-based newspaper El Nacional, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are highly keen on Olmo and 'want him no matter what'.

The forward-thinking midfielder, who also helped Spain reach the Olympics final after the Euros, is under contract at Leipzig until 2024.

That means the German side hold plenty of the bargaining chips and it's said Liverpool will have to pay €50 million.

Barcelona are also interested in a reunion and that is supposedly Olmo's preference.

However, Barca's precarious financial situation could make a move difficult and the Reds may look to take advantage.
