Liverpool star backed to make 'right contract decision' after Arne Slot makes 'everybody wants him' claim

Arne Slot has discussed recent interest in this Liverpool star due to become a free agent this summer.

Seeing transfer links between Mohamed Salah and Saudi Arabia has almost become a norm these days. After the Pro League’s relentless pursuit in 2023, rumours have continued to surround the Egyptian’s future, and with his contract due to expire this year, more questions are being raised about his position at Liverpool.

Salah can now officially enter pre-contract negotiations with overseas clubs but Arne Slot hopes that his star winger will put pen to paper and commit his future to Anfield. However, Salah has been providing sporadic updates on his current contract situation and he revealed earlier this month that ‘no progress’ had been made behind the scenes.

“So far, yes. It's the last six months. There is no progress there. We are far away from any progress. So, we just need to wait and see,” the 32-year-old told Sky Sports.

While it doesn’t look like Salah will be leaving Liverpool this month, Saudi Arabia are still heavily interested in acquiring his signature, especially with a potential free transfer coming up.

Saudi Arabia ‘would love’ to sign Salah

The world is very much aware that the Saudi Pro League would like to make Salah their poster boy but the country’s sports minister has confirmed just how much they are eager to make it happen.

“Definitely, because if he ticks all the right boxes, even for us, we’d love to have him,” Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal said in an interviewed aired on the Piers Morgan Uncensored YouTube channel. “We feel like we are one with the Egyptians, from our culture and our history and so on.

“So to have Mo Salah or other players that are good role models would be a pleasure and a privilege to have in the Saudi League. Will it happen or not? That’s up to the clubs to decide and to see what negotiations go on.”

Slot comments on Mo Salah future

Whenever Slot sits down for a press conference, he is more often than not asked about the future of the players approaching the end of their contracts. His answer is always that he cannot pass on anything that is happening behind the scenes, but he has stressed how much he would like to see Salah stay at Liverpool.

When asked about his thoughts on Prince Abdulaziz’s comments, Slot said: “I would be surprised if there is anyone, wherever in the world, saying ‘we don’t want Mo Salah’.

“He’s been doing so well for so many years that everybody probably wants him, and he’s done well without my advice for a long time so he can probably keep doing what is best for his career. But my advice to him would be different.

“What I mean is, everybody wants him, including us. Of course, we want him to extend as well. But I’m not surprised that Saudi wants him and I wouldn’t be surprised if other countries want him as well. He’s old and wise enough, he’s done so many smart things in his career, he will make the right decision for himself, and hopefully for us as well.”
