Liverpool transfer news: The youngster has been a key figure for Leeds United despite only being 18.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Leeds United wonderkid Archie Gray will prove hugely difficult as his family see his short-term future in Yorkshire.

Gray, 18, has been a revelation for Leeds across the past year. Breaking into the first-team aged 17 and being a reliable and consistent figure across right-back and central midfield. He made an eye-catching 52 appearances in total, playing over 4,000 minutes and he looks every bit like a future star.

Interest has been rife in the youngster who made his England U21 debut in March 2024. His current deal expires in 2028 but the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool are all interested and, according to HITC, so are both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich but they may all have to wait another year before being able to sign Gray. Leeds failed to achieve promotion after losing in the play-off final to Southampton and while Gray has many suitors, he looks to be leaning towards another year developing in the Championship according to the latest reports. CBS journalist Ben Jacobs revealed the latest on his future on the Just Joe Football Show. “The whole Gray family are very considered in their thinking, and very content to stay, even if it’s another season in the Championship.”

“He has come through the under-21s and ultimately one breakthrough season doesn’t mean you have to jump ship. I’m not sure many of the clubs linked with Gray can offer him the game time necessary for his development.  In the Gray family’s opinion, the best place for him is Leeds United and so it is going to take something pretty special, or urgent financially speaking from Leeds’ perspective, to change that.”
