Having departed Merseyside as a much maligned figure, he has forced his way into England contention and has been linked with a move away as a result.
Previously, the internet was filled with stories of Gordon being a ‘£100m’ target for Liverpool. David Ornstein also wrote on their interest but a move of such significance would need one of their attackers to leave, namely Luis Diaz or Cody Gakpo to accommodate him.
Regardless, it could be a future switch given he grew up on Merseyside and he previously described the best atmosphere he has witnessed on the football pitch as Anfield. He told Channel 4: "Other than St James' Park, it's Anfield by far. I think because I'm from the city, I grew up watching it. Before the game when they sing You'll Never Walk Alone, it's top level." Since then, he has spoken out on what it is like to face the sides he grew up loving - which has hinted towards an affinity for Liverpool. After all, he was in great form against Liverpool in their contest at St. James’ Park in August 2023 after netting the opener and was clearly extremely motivated on that occasion.

It's always at the best level it can be. I would be lying if I said there wasn't a bit more motivation to just show yourself and do well.”
