Nat Phillips has sealed a January transfer deadline day departure from Liverpool.

The centre-back has joined AFC Bournemouth on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Reds had hoped to sell Phillips - who is fifth-choice centre-half at Anfield - on a permanent basis.

But no-one met Liverpool’s asking price of £15 million and he instead heads out to Premier League-chasing Bournemouth.

The Cherries are second in the Championship table as they bid to return to the top flight.

Certainly, Jurgen Klopp’s men would have welcomed a significant fee after shelling out on initial £37.5 million on winger Luis Diaz from Porto on Sunday.

But according to The Athletic, Liverpool will at least get some sort of windfall.

It’s reported that Bournemouth have paid £1.5 million for Phillips’ services.

And should they reach the Premier League, there will be an additional £250,00 that’ll land in the Anfield coffers.

Meanwhile, the south-coast outfit will cover Phillips’ entire wages so that frees up some funds for the Reds.

The former Bolton Wanderers trainee had been linked with the likes of Newcastle United, West Ham and Burnley earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Watford had a bid of £7 million rejected by Klopp’s side.

Phillips had made just three appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this season.

But there was no way of ousting Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez.

Rhys Williams, who had his loan spell at Swansea City cut short, is now likely to take up Phillips’ role.
