Liverpool continue to be linked with Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma amid expected reinforcements in the front line.

The Reds did manage to strengthen their attacking group with the signing of Luis Diaz during the January transfer window.

But amid uncertainty over the long-term futures of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, they are expected to address the top end of the field again this summer.

One name that just won’t go away is Danjuma, who has been linked with a move to Anfield since late in 2021.

But what should Liverpool fans know about the former Bournemouth man, and can the Reds actually sign him?

His career and Villarreal switch

Danjuma came through the PSV academy but never featured for the first-team, moving on to NEC before joining Bournemouth via a stint at Club Brugge.

At Bournemouth, he managed 15 goals in 47 appearances from out wide and caught the eye of Villarreal.

The Yellow Submarine don’t commonly spend big money to land players, but they paid around €25 million to land Danjuma.

Villarreal vice-president Jose Manuel Llaneza said at the some that, ‘sometimes, you have to buy a Rolex.’

Danjuma’s season so far

So, has Danjuma performed like a Rolex for Villarreal?

In short, yes. The Yellows needed a wide player who could provide a finishing touch, and Danjuma has offered that, also filling in centrally when needed.

He has scored 12 goals and assisted four in across 23 games, including four Champions League goals in just seven appearances.

That’s despite missing nine games with a troubling ankle injury which is now behind him.

Liverpool’s chances of signing Danjuma

Liverpool have been linked with a €45 million move for Danjuma, but that would be below the winger’s release clause.

Villarreal could be open to a deal, however. The Yellows will be keen to keep hold of their star man and ‘Rolex’, but the reality of this situation is that they could more than double their money after a year.

Danjuma is an ambitious player who would likely want to take a step up if such an opportunity presented itself, though he is happy in Castellon.

Making a big profit on Danjuma could offer the Villarreal to keep players who would be more difficult to replace, such as centre-back Pau Torres.

The bottom line is that the Yellow Submarine are a financially sound club who won’t be pushed into selling a player for below his worth.

But there could be a deal to be made this summer if Liverpool are willing to pay a large fee, somewhere in the region of €50million, or perhaps a little more.
