Transfer deadline day live blog: Liverpool and Everton latest updates

The latest news coming out of Liverpool

We round up all of the potential incomings and (mainly) outgoings that could happen before the window shuts.

Williams set for loan

Liverpool defender Rhys Williams is closing in on a loan move to Swansea City.

The centre-back performed admirably during the Reds’ defensive crisis last season.

But with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all back fit, along with the summer arrival of Ibrahima Konate, Williams is back down the pecking order.

A switch to the Championship will allow Williams, 20, to continue his promising progress.

A knock-on impact at Goodison?

Hector Bellerin is closing in on a departure from Arsenal to Real Betis.

That, therefore, could impact Everton’s pursuit of Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The Gunners could well opt to keep the Blues target at the Emirates as a right-back option.

A powerful verdict from the ex-Palace owner

There have been some Liverpool fans bemoaning the lack of spending this summer.

However, Simon Jordan couldn’t think differently while on talkSPORT earlier today.

Karius looks like he’ll stay

Liverpool would like to offload much-maligned goalkeeper Loris Karius.

The German hasn’t played for the Reds since his disastrous showing in the defeat to Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final.

Karius is fourth-choice keeper at Anfield and out of contract next summer.

However, as things, stand, he will be remaining with Liverpool.

The countdown is on for any remaining deals to be done.

So far, just one bit of business has been completed on Merseyside, with Moise Kean leaving Everton for Juventus as expected.

Rondon backed to thrive if Everton win race

Salamon Rondon is a target for Everton before the transfer window shut.

Rafa Benitez is keen to reunite with the striker, having worked together at Newcastle and Chinese Super League club Dalian Professional.

Reports have suggested Rondon will have to forgo a sizeable amount of money to join the Blues.

But if he is prised to Goodison, ex-Leeds striker Noel Whelan reckons he can be a big hit.

He told Football Insider: “Rondon gives you something different to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, that’s for sure. I see him as a more aggressive, hold-up player than Calvert-Lewin.

“When managers go to new clubs they tend to buy players who they’ve worked with and know they can trust. Rondon certainly fits that bill for Benitez.

“On his day he is an absolute handful even if he is not the most consistent goalscorer out there.

“Look, Everton do not have one million and one options when it comes to centre-forward. Richarlison can play there but he is more effective coming from out wide.

“Let’s be honest, you can never have enough firepower in your squad so I would be very interested to see how he does if he goes there.”

Liverpool won’t be making a deadline day move for Jarrod Bowen.

But The Athletic reports that Jurgen Klopp will continue to track the West Ham forward’s progress.

Bowen, 24, scored eight goals in 38 games to help David Moyes’ side qualify for the Europa League last season.

Klopp is a big fan of the former Hull ace and he will remain on the Reds’ radar.

Next summer will be busier for Liverpool, says Carragaher

Jamie Carragher expects Liverpool to “attack the market” next summer amid a quiet transfer window.

The Reds aren’t expected to make any more additions on deadline day before tonight’s 23.00 BST cut-off point.

What’s been said

Jurgen Klopp has strengthened his squad with just one fresh face. Ibrahima Konate was purchased for £36 million from RB Leipzig in June.

And although some Kopites would have liked more players to have been recruited after Liverpool finished third in the Premier League last season Carragher believes they’ll have to wait 12 months.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the Anfield legend said: “I’m not worried about it - that’s the basic model. Liverpool’s owners don’t have the revenue of Manchester City, Roman Abramovich [Chelsea’s owner], nor do they bring in as much money as Manchester United do.

“So, Liverpool have had a model since FSG have come in and it’s worked spectacularly. They’re seen as one of the best operators in the transfer market and how they go about their business.

“I know there is a frustration among supporters that Liverpool are not getting involved in the transfer market when you look at what Chelsea and Manchester United have done. A lot of the money Liverpool were going to spend has been spent on wages.

“I think Liverpool will be looking to attack the market more next summer. This summer was about renewing contracts which does cost money.”
