Bonfire Night 2021: The dazzling firework displays you won’t want to miss in Liverpool and beyond

The skies will be lighting up in November, with sparkling displays taking place across Liverpool and beyond.

And excitement is already brewing as this is the first time that we’ll be able to enjoy bonfire night since 2019.

So grab your sparklers and stock up on snacks - here are the top bonfire night celebrations and displays you can see this year.

Wirral

Wirral Council have confirmed there will be a host of community fireworks across the borough on Friday, 5 November, and Saturday, 6 November. People will be able to enjoy free displays of fireworks on both days.

On Saturday, there will be funfairs to entertain the family too - from noon until 18:00 at events at Central Park and Birkenhead Park.

On Friday, 5 November, displays will start from 18:00 pm at:

• Lingham Park, Moreton
• Mayer Park, Bebington
• Woodchurch Leisure Centre, Woodchurch
• Mersey Park, Birkenhead
• Leasowe Adventure Playground, Leasowe

On Saturday, 6 November, displays will start from 18:30 at:

• Birkenhead Park, Birkenhead
• Central Park, Wallasey

A Wirral Council spokesperson said: “If you are going to attend one of these events, please wrap up warm, stay safe and be considerate of others – it is so important that we continue to protect ourselves and others from COVID-19 by continuing to regularly clean our hands, wearing a face covering and maintaining a safe distance from others where possible.”

Sefton

The big bonfire night celebration in the Sefton area is actually taking place just up the coast at Southport Pleasureland on Saturday, 6 November.

The Day of the Dead extravaganza features rides all evening, as well as a whole host of acts including the spectacular KATUMBA drummers, ‘Bring the Fire Project’ fire eaters and spinners, and a live DJ to enjoy before our stunning firework finale.

However there are also bonfire night events taking place at Firwood Waterloo Rugby Club and Hightown Cricket Club on Friday, 5 November. Both offer food, fireworks displays and children’s entertainment.

St Helens

Like many other bonfire night events across the the Liverpool City Region, this year’s Spark in the Park display at Sherdley Park has been called off by St Helens Council over COVID-19 safety fears.

But there are other Bonfire Night events going on for residents of the borough.

Newton-le-Willows Sports Club will be having a celebration for all the family on Friday, November 5. There will be indoor and outdoor bars, an under 12’s fairground, food stalls and sideshows. The  bonfire will be lit at 19:00 and the fireworks begin at 19:30.

Meanwhile, the Rainford Bonfire and Fireworks event will take place on Saturday, November 6. Organised by St Helens Rotary and Rainford Scouts there will be food and mulled wine available in a heated marquee, plus a pizza oven provided by the Golden Lion pub.

The bonfire will be lit at Rainford Parish Church Field at 18:30 and the fireworks start at 19:00.

Halton

Halton’s annual fireworks display at Runcorn Widnes Bridge has been cancelled for the second year running by the council due to the pandemic and rising infection rates in the borough.

However, just down the road in Warrington there are a number of big firework displays taking place.

The Partridge Lakes Fishery event has now sold out but The Imperial Hotel firework display returns after a year off for coronavirus and gets underway at 18:00 on Friday, 5 November.

There will also be a big display at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, but as it is the home of Warrington RLFC and the new kit will also be unveiled, it might not appeal to rugby fans from rivals Widnes. The kit reveal will be at 19:00 and the fireworks show will start at 19:30.

Liverpool

This year’s fireworks display on the waterfront has been cancelled again by Liverpool City Council due to fears over crowd sizes and COVID-19 but the River of Light walk remains in place until Sunday, 7 November.

If you are looking for an organised fireworks display and bonfire you may have to head into one of the neighbouring boroughs or even nearby Ormskirk where Hurlston Hall will be hosting a big event.

Taking place on Friday, 5 November, from 17:00 to 22:00 the party features a ‘massive’ bonfire, fireworks and also serves food outdoors - so wrap up warm.
