Christmas is making a big come back all across the UK, and Liverpool is no exception. In a matter of days the streets will be filled with the smell of mulled wine, delicious hot foot and handmade gifts for your nearest and dearest.

The excitement and anticipation of Christmas would be nothing without a trip to a market local to you so here are the top festive markets set to return across the whole of the Liverpool City Region.

Liverpool Christmas Market

After missing out on the festivities due to COVID-19 restrictions last year the main market returns bigger than ever. They have themed bars, a range of hot food like the popular Yorkshire pudding wraps and so much more.

This year’s market is a slightly different location at St John’s Gardens, William Brown Street and the area around the North Entrance of St George’s Hall.

It opened on the 12 November and will be there for all your festive needs until 23 December.

The market will be open Sunday to Wednesday from 11:00 to 21:00 and Thursday to Saturday 11:00 to 22:00.

Winter Arts Market

The Winter arts market will also be making its return to Liverpool Cathedral this year.

It will host over 60 stalls with independent artists, crafters and designers.

The market commences on 3 December and ends 4 December. More information can be found on the website.

Palm House Pop Up Market

The Palm House in Sefton Park will be a perfect place for finding unique gifts for your family and friends this year.

Opening from 14:00-20:00 on 19 November, they will welcome shoppers with mulled wine, carols and lovely food.

The market will be open from 10:00 to 17:00 on Saturday, 20 November, and Sunday, 21 November.

Southport Christmas Market

The biggest market in the Sefton area is up the coast at Southport. The Christmas market will host a range of local traders, as well as family friendly events like meeting Santa and his elves.

The Christmas market itself will be set up on Market Street and will be there from 10 December to 23 December.

Southport’s regular market will also be turned into a Christmas extravaganza for the first time ever. There will be a range of free events, Christmas films showing as well as a Santa meet and greet. Reservations and events will be available from 3 December to 23 December.

Woodside Ferry Village @ Christmas

Woodside Ferry Village will host a six week long Christmas market this festive season.

As well as a range of local vendors, the market will have 24 wooden chalets that come with stunning views of Liverpool.

The markets will be open every weekend from 11:00 to 18:00 in the run up to Christmas, starting 13 November.

Okay, so Chester is not in Halton, but it’s impressive Christmas Market is only a 26 minute drive away, and it has a range of local sellers and activities available.

The market is open from November 18 - December 22. It will be open Monday - Wednesday 10:30 - 18:30, Thursday - Saturday 10:30 to 20:00, and Sunday 10:30 to 18 :30.

Widnes Market Christmas Craft fair

There is also the Widnes Market Christmas Craft fair 2021 on November 28th. The event will have themed stalls, bespoke items and seasonal food and drink. Entry is free and there is free parking available throughout the day. Santa is also set to make an appearance.

Barnyards is also set to host Christmas Markets

Barnyards is also set to host Christmas Markets every Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 18:00 on the run up to Christmas.

Huyton Live

Huyton Live’s Christmas artisan markets are set to return this year. The first event will coincide with the Christmas lights switch on in Huyton Village Centre on 19 November.

The second event will take place on 17 December with free and family friendly events taking place every weekend in the lead up to Christmas Day. The events are as follows:

Christmas Light Switch On with Huyton Live – Friday, 19 November, from 16:00 – 21:00 (with switch on at 18:30)

Artisan and Craft Market – Saturday, 20 November, from 11:00 to 15:00.

Huyton Live – Friday, 17 December, from 16:00 to 21:00

St Helens

While there isn’t a large Christmas Market planned for St Helens, there is one just down the road in Warrington.

The market and other events will be running throughout Warrington town centre from 7 December to 8 December. The free event will take place over two days and will bring a range of Christmas goods like handmade wreaths and mulled wine.
