Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to lower their asking price to around £20 million for Liverpool target Adama Traore.

Traore was a target for Liverpool in 2020, after Liverpool secured their first league title in 31 years, but they decided to turn down the chance to sign the La Masia product as Wolves’ asking price was deemed too high.

Liverpool’s transfer activity under scrutiny

Liverpool owners FSG have recently come under fire for their lack of ambition in the transfer window, as their rivals Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and others spend big and strengthen significantly.

The recent window saw Liverpool sign just one player, centre-back Ibrahima Konate, and fans’ calls for depth in the midfield and attacking positions went unheard.

As AFCON looms, Liverpool are set to lose their two most valuable and important players in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, and will also lose Naby Keita. Whilst Keita isn’t a starter, he adds valuable depth.

Liverpool’s front three options

As Mane, Salah and Keita compete in AFCON during a hectic winter period for Liverpool their front three could likely feature Divock Origi, Diogo Jota and Takumi Minamino.

That’s about 10% of the front three we usually see, with only Jota performing well in the league. And, for a side with title aspirations, that front three just won’t score enough to win games and will leave a Mane and co a lot to do when they return.

So, £20 million for Adama seems like a fair deal.

Adama’s strengths and weaknesses

Arguably one of the most dangerous player in the league when on form, Adama’s pace and huge natural strength is a rare combination.

Good at dribbling, he just needs a few parts of his game fine tuning, such as his shooting and crossing.

Imagine a world where Adama Traore could thread the perfect through ball, put the ball on a striker’s head, or finishing with immense composure and assurance.

If any manager can overhaul his technical abilities it would be Jurgen Klopp.

Adama is so dangerous, he has his arms regularly oiled up before games, so opponents can’t grab them to bring him down.
