More patients visited A&E at Wirral Community Health and Care Trust last month, with demand rising well above the levels seen over the same period last year.

More patients visited A&E at Wirral Community Health and Care Trust last month, with demand rising well above the levels seen over the same period last year.

NHS England figures show 3,065 patients visited A&E at Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust in January.

That was a rise of 1% on the 3,025 visits recorded during December, and more than double the 1,083 patients seen in January 2021.

The figures show attendances were below the levels seen before the coronavirus pandemic – in January 2020, there were 4,581 visits to A&E at Wirral Community Health and Care Trust.

All of last month's attendances were via minor A&E departments – those which treat minor injuries and illnesses such as fractures, cuts and bruises.

Across England, A&E departments received 1.9 million visits last month.

That was in line with December, but 43% more than the 1.3 million seen during January 2021.
