These increased cost of living is affecting us all, and even animals are feeling the strain.
Last week, Dogs Trust issued an urgent appeal to dog lovers as the charity faces a ‘crisis’ with record numbers of people needing to give up their pets. More people than ever are contacting the charity’s Merseyside branch, facing the difficuly decision to give up their canine companions, as they can’t afford to care for them.
Dogs Trust are struggling to house all of these pups, and is looking for volunteer foster carers to provide a temporary home for dogs of all ages, shapes and sizes, or for families to take them home permanently. Here are 12 dogs and puppies, who have recently arrived at the Merseyside kennels.

5. Betty
Betty is a very friendly Frenchie who finds herself with us through no fault of her own. She’s very easy going but can’t manage long bouts of exercise due to her ability to breathe. She’ll need regular short walks and not when it’s hot outside. Betty can live with dogs and children over the age of 8.
6. Zzee
Zzee is an American Bulldog Cross who can live with children over the age of 12 but will need to be the only pet whilst he works on his social skills with other dogs. He came via the local animal warden so Dogs Trust aren’t sure if he is house trained, but it is more than likely.
7. Fergus
Fergus is a ten-year-old Jack Russell Terrier looking for a home with his best friend Bonnie. Fergus appreciates a slow approach from people and doesn’t like to be crowded, and may tense if getting affection from someone he doesn’t know well.
8. Gary
Gary is an ex racing Greyhound and has likely lived in a kennel environment rather than a home. He'll probably need house training but adult dogs do pick it up quickly, and he'll need some basic training also. He's a large boy who loves to cuddle, so probably best with robust kids aged 14 and up!
