Many of us are permanent home workers these days. The covid-19 lockdowns showed many businesses that their employees can actually work just as well - if not better - from the comfort of their own homes.
With the relaxed, familiar environment often increasing productivity and allowing parents to easily schedule their workload around school pick-ups and drop-offs, the five-day week in the office is becoming less popular. But, while that is great news for many, some people (like me) who live alone often miss working with their colleagues face-to-face.

If you’re some who benefits from body doubling - the concept that seeing other people work beside you helps you get tasks done - or you just fancy a change of scenery, a coffee shop can be a great place to spend the day.
Liverpool is full of great coffee shops - both independents and chains - which are specially equipped for students or remote workers, with comfy seats, free wifi and ample plug sockets. But, which ones are the best?
As a remote worker and avid coffee lover, I have created a list of some of the best spots to work from. From monthly drinks subscriptions to affordable filter coffee and co-working spaces, here are my top recommendations for coffee shops in Liverpool city centre.

1. Parliament Square Coffee, Crump Street
Parliament Square Coffee is a great spot for those hoping to work around the Baltic Triangle area. With plenty of seats, fast wifi and a range of salads and sandwiches, it's a lovely venue. Barista made drinks are available, as well as other soft drinks and it is open from 7am until 6pm on weekdays. 📍 Crump Street, Liverpool L1 5AB | Emma Dukes/LiverpoolWorld Photo: Emma Dukes/LiverpoolWorld

2. Mother Espresso, Wood Street
Mother is a great spot for remote working, with ample tables and a large co-working bench in the middle, with tons of plugs. The coffee is always nice and freshly made pastries, cakes, doughnuts and more are available, as well as hot food. A batch brew black coffee is priced at £2.60 and it is a short walk from Liverpool Central station. 📍 Wood Street, Liverpool L1 4DQ | Mother Espresso via Instagram Photo: Mother Espresso via Instagram

3. Pret A Manger, Derby Square
Pret A Manger in Derby Square may not be the cosiest setting but the venue has plenty of seating and a filter coffee is just £1.50. Serving a range of food from baguettes to salads, it is open from 8am until 6pm and is located a short walk away from James Street station. If you plan on working from Pret regularly a subscription is also available for £30 month. Members can get up to five barista-made drinks a day and 20% of food. 📍 Derby Square, Liverpool L2 9UU | stock.adobe.com Photo: stock.adobe.com

92 Degrees on Jamaica Street is an ideal place for remote working, based inside the Baltic Creative. It always feels super cosy during the colder months and it is often filled with other people working too.
