The sun is shining and the weekend is almost here, meaning many of us are probably thinking about one thing... a cold pint in a lovely local pub. But, how do you choose where to go?
Liverpool is home to some pretty iconic watering holes, including a pub that opened in the 1700s and several CAMRA award winners, known for excellent beer and ales.

13. The Philharmonic Dining Rooms, Hope Street
The Philharmonic Dining Rooms is a public house built around 1900. The pub has a cosy interior with wooden panelling and leather sofas. The Good Pub Guide said: “Beautifully preserved Victorian pub with wonderful period detail; centrepiece mosaic-faced counter, heavily carved and polished mahogany partitions radiating out under intricate plasterwork ceiling, main hall with stained glass of Boer War heroes Baden-Powell and Lord Roberts.” Photo: Google
14. Roscoe Head, Roscoe Street
Roscoe Head opened in the 1830s and is the only pub in the North of England (and one of only five pubs in the UK) to appear in every edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide since first published in 1974. The Good Pub Guide said: “Unassuming old local with cosy bar, snug and two other spotless unspoilt little rooms; well kept Tetleys Bitter, Timothy Taylors Landlord and four guests (tasting trays available), friendly staff and regulars.” Photo: Google
15. The Ship and Mitre, Dale Street
The Ship and Mitre was built around 1935, and despite several refurbs, it has retained its iconic art deco features. Previously named CAMRA’s Pub of Excellence, the pub serves a huge range of beers and cask ales. 16. Thomas Rigby’s, Dale Street
Thomas Rigby’s is one of Liverpool’s oldest pubs, located on Dale Street. The historic venue serves cask beers and traditional pub grub, and bears the name of a wine and spirit dealer. The Good Pub Guide said: “Spacious three-room Victorian pub; main bare-boards bar with iron pillars supporting sturdy beams, panelling and stained glass, up to eight cask beers including Okells and guests from long counter, also over 40 imported beers.” Photo: Google
