Two bars from the city have made the list, which is compiled using over 100 industry experts, who range from bartenders to influencers.
Berry & Rye and Present Company are flying the flag for Liverpool in the top 50.
Here’s what the judges had to say about them…
No.28 - Berry & Rye
📍48 Berry St, Liverpool L1 4JQ
The prohibition-themed bar has been put together with great attention to detail.
The judges said: “It’s quite easy to walk past Berry & Rye, which is hidden on Berry Street in Liverpool, but once you find it, you’ll discover a bar filled with jazz, blues and more gin cocktails than you can shake a stick at.
“To get in, knock on the door – which is unnamed – and you’ll be shown through by a door person.
“There’s a restriction on the number of people allowed in, so don’t be too disheartened if you get turned away or are asked to wait.
“The bar, however, doesn’t take bookings, so it might be a good idea to turn up earlier than planned.”
No.43 - Present Company
📍 37-39 School Ln, Liverpool L1 3DA
The bar has continued to grow in popularity since its opening in May 2019, and the judges have described it as a “key destination for locals and city visitors alike”.
The judges added: “Notable serves on the cocktail menu have included the Paridisi, made with Finland Grapefruit Vodka, umeshu and Aperol; the Biscoff Old Fashioned, made with buttered Woodford Reserve, Biscoff and bitters; and the Penicillin, made with Benraich Ten and Benraich Smoky, lemon, honey and ginger.
“Other highlights have included the Gimlet, made with Beefeater Gin, pisco and lime sherbet; the Bang Bang Negroni with Beefeater Gin, sweet vermouth, Campari, red chilli and pink peppercorn; and the Bankers Punch made with Jameson, tawny port, rum blend and raspberry.”
Top 50 Cocktail Bars publisher Christopher Lowe said: “We have created Top 50 Cocktail Bars to help people find the best bars, which are often hidden, around the UK.
“London has always been seen as a global leader for cocktails but as you’ll see from the 2022 list, other major cities across the UK are now catching up.
“Our newly launched website will help cocktail connoisseurs discover the best of the UK bar scene with many of these very much still under the radar.”
