Get your greenery fix
Just across the river, Wirral Country Park provides a variety of walking trails, including those along the coast and through woodlands. The first country park in Britain, it offers stunning views of the estuary and the Liverpool skyline. You may have to look a little harder for wildlife in winter but it’s there!
Less than an hour’s drive away (or accessible via its very own train station) is Cheshire’s largest woodland, Delamere Forest. It’s a peaceful retreat for winter walks, where you can explore the woodland trails and enjoy the serenity of the forest. There are walks for all abilities as well as the chance to try orienteering or just watch the wildlife by the lake; you can even hire a cabin and make a weekend of it.
Take in the fresh sea air
Head north to Formby Beach, part of the National Trust, and enjoy a bracing walk along the sandy shore and through the pine forests. It's also a great place for birdwatching and taking in the fresh sea air.
Located on the Wirral Peninsula, the promenade at New Brighton offers a pleasant meander along the waterfront with cheering views of the Liverpool skyline and the Mersey. Or visit Crosby Beach for a unique backdrop for a coastal walk and some of the most stunning winter sunsets in the country, as well as the chance to see Antony Gormley's surreal Another Place installation with its 100 iron men sculptures.
See the city differently
Explore the iconic waterfront area, home to landmarks such as the Royal Albert Dock, the Beatles Story, and the Museum of Liverpool, and head further along the River Mersey for a leisurely walk and admire the city's architecture – just remember to wrap up warm.
Stroll Otterspool promenade and head towards the city for a stimulating four-mile jaunt, ending at Albert Dock; this is also a great route to run or cycle. Or just stretch your legs and take a walk through the heart of Liverpool and enjoy the festive lights and decorations during the holiday season. Stroll along our city's vibrant streets and explore its shops and restaurants.

Before heading out for winter walks in and around Liverpool, be sure to check the weather conditions, dress warmly, and be mindful of daylight hours.
Confirm the opening hours and availability of attractions and events, particularly during the winter season. And remember to take a fully charged mobile phone with you if you’re going anywhere remote.
