Channel 4’s popular reality series SAS: Who Dares Wins returns next month with their celebrity version of the quasi-military show with the recruits now expanded from 12 to 14, and a longer season throughout autumn.

Amongst the willing recruits for the fourth season of Celebrity SAS is a Liverpool born actress known for her work in Brookside, a former Strictly Come Dancing professional and a paralympic athlete.

The 14 recruits will once again be put to the test by Chief Instructor Rudy Reyes and his directing staff of Foxy (Jason Fox), Billy (Mark Billingham) and Remi Adeleke.

Channel 4 has promised that Reyes and his team won’t “care how famous the recruits are, how many social media followers they have or what they have done before this”.

“As soon as they enter the selection process, their celebrity status and luxuries are stripped away,” he said.

What is Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins?

SAS: Who Dares Wins debuted in 2015 and saw contestants pitted against harsh environments around the world in an abridged training course designed to replicate the training process of an actual UK Special Forces selection course.

The show’s directing staff take the recruits through hostile and unforgiving warfare environments, while testing their mental and physical ability through a series of tests from an incredibly difficult training programme.

In its fourth season in 2019, the show allowed female recruits to take part for the first time to keep in line with the Ministry of Defence’s announcement that Special Forces selection would be open to women.

The first celebrity version of the show took place also in 2019 as footballer Wayne Bridge became the first celebrity to pass the course and since then, two more celebrity versions have taken place in 2020 and 2021.

After leaving the show, Ellison went on to present a travel documentary, appeared on BBC reality show The Verdict and became a guest panellist on Loose Women.

She made her West End debut in 2004 appearing as Roxie Hart in Chicago, a role she subsequently toured across the rest of the UK and even had a short pop career, releasing Baby I Don’t Care in 2004 and Bye Bye Boy in 2005.

Speaking about her involvement in the show, Ellison likens the experience to “like labour - you go to hell and back but then you get the most incredible reward at the end which stays with you for life. It changes you and I’ll never be the same again, I’m so thankful for the experience.”
