Construction has begun on many exciting projects in Liverpool, including Everton’s new stadium and a brand-new entertainment venue in the Baltic Triangle.
Here, we take a look at the projects set to regenerate the ever-changing city.
9. Festival Gardens regeneration
Liverpool’s Festival Gardens was once part of the International Garden Festival celebrations launched by Queen Elizabeth II in 1984.
Although the Festival Gardens are home to a beautiful park, the site of the actual festival was left in a terrible state. It has since been derelict for over thirty-years and Liverpool Council have been working to transform the site from landfill to 1,500 brand new homes. Much work on the site has been completed however, the city council have recently launched a fresh hunt for a developer after their agreement with Ion Developments expired.
The search for a new partner has continued into 2023.
10. Go-kart track, M&S and roof top garden at Liverpool ONE
A new £10m go-karting and entertainment venue, which could include bowling and an indoor golf centre, in the former Debenhams department store at LiverpoolONE will fully open in 2023. Marks and Spencer have also confirmed it will move into the lower floors of the building on Lord Street, relocating from its iconic Church Street location after almost 100 years. As part of the wider transformation of the building, an application has been lodged with Liverpool Council for the creation of a rooftop terrace and performance space. Photo: Google
11. Drive-thru Starbucks
A new drive-thru Starbucks coffee shop could be opened on the outskirts of Liverpool city centre. Plans have been put forward to Liverpool Council for permission to build on vacant land at the entrance of Brunswick Business Park, Sefton Street, L3. The plans have not yet been approved, however, if they were to go ahead it would be the city centre’s first drive thru Starbucks, with the closest currently being Edge Lane.
12. £80m train station in Kirkby
Work has begun on a new train station at Headbolt Lane in Kirkby. The £80 million scheme will see the station designed specifically for battery-powered services and the opening of the station planned for Spring 2023.
