Liverpool is the birthplace of many great artists, actors and sports legends - but did you know some wonderful inventions were also created in the city?
Here, we take a look at some of the brilliant things Liverpool has given to the world, and celebrate some extraordinary Scousers.
9. The world’s first all-female sextuplets
The world’s first all-female surviving sextuplets were born at Liverpool Maternity Hospital in November 1983, to Janet and Graham Walton.
10. Scouse
Scouse is a traditional Liverpool stew, usually containing chunks of meat or minced meat, with potatoes, onions and carrots. It’s why people fro Liverpool are known as Scousers!
11. Overhead railways
The Liverpool Overhead Railway opened in 1893 to carry workers along the docks and waterfront - it was the first electrically-operated elevated railway in the world and sadly closed in 1956. It can now be seen at Liverpool’s World Museum.
12. Circulating/lending libraries
The Lyceum, Bold Street, was home to the first lending library in Europe and some believe, the world. Built in 1802, by 1841 it had around 30,000 books and members could borrow them for a limited time. It sadly closed in 1942 and re-opened as a post office, which is also now closed.
